2 weeks to go

Hey Ed

Allan recently wrote on my lovely new facebook page that espn was reporting Cutler was going to the redskins. He wrote that as a joke.Cutler going to the bears doesnt upset me,what does,is that there was a real chance of Cutler wearing burgandy!

With this franchise quarterback just narrowly missing the D.C. nets,i have become quite fond of the idea of Matthew Stafford in blue.My only worry being that it'll be the light blue of Detroit, rather than the dark blue of Seattle.Yet again we have Jay to thank for that!

Micheal Crabtree is portrayed as the next Calvin Johnson.Yet there are wr's that are faster, stronger and taller than Crabtree with their numbers being just as productive as his.Yet he is still given top 10 credentials when all they have on him is game tape. Why?

Opinions seem very divided on Kyle Orton.I personally believe he is quite good and with four first round picks in the next two drafts,Denver are sitting pretty well, especially if you imagine those four picks going to the defense?

Not to be a misery guts and all but,you cant fail and be impressed by the Pats offseason. They havent brought in big name players, they havent even brought in young players, but i cant help but think that if Tom has recovered as well as they say, then playoffs could almost be a lock in what is(win wise)the best division in football.Shawn Springs is a T.O. specialist and Leigh Bodden is not exactly bad.Even more worrying is the news that Peppers could be a Patroit.Joey Galloway and Greg Lewis have both been in the league a while and can provide even more veteren leadership.Fred Taylor, though close to retirement can still get you a good 25 yards each series, which is enough, considering he'll be but an extra to an awesome aeriel attack. With Cassel gone though,i cant see Kevin O'Connel being the next quarterback from new england that is franchised and traded. The Patriots will be desperate to keep Brady upright.

The Seahawks traded away a vital cog in one of the better lb corps in the league.Julien Peterson practically sealed Aaron Curry's fate of not being drafted number 1.

At the end of the day the draft is where alot of trades will occur;i mean Randy Moss for a 4th?wtf?Jason Campbell is reportedly draft day bait. From this information i can only hope that Zorn has seen something in Colt Brennan and is confidant in his potential(i'd love a Brennan top!)though if Stafford goes at 4 then i'll have a decision on my hands!

I love your enthusiasm for McCown but i cant help thinking the bucs starting quarterback come next season will be a guy called Freeman.Sanchez is too high for a trade to occur but as you know anything can happen.

couple of questions for you:when you back?wats going on in india atm?are you having a good time?thoughts on todays blog?

oh btw congrats on edinburgh!!!

Combine 2009

hey ed,good chat the other day need to get some more on the go but until then here's a review of the combine.first of all i would like to apoligise for the now obselete post below!free agency is fast and only a few players remain!the newest signings have been:ward to the bucs;brooking to the boys;cassel to the chiefs and houshmanzadeh to the seahawks!

as you know the combine can propel players to the first round while it can also send a stock crashing.news such as the unexplained withdrawl of andre smith, the surgery that is required by reciever micheal crabtree has upset a few mock drafts while the performance of nobodys has elevated their status to first day picks.while the combine is basically a glorified workout, that doesnt mean injuries dont occur, maualuga and brian orakpo(de/lb) both suffered injuries which ruined their combine, they still however are present in all mock drafts in a very high choice!

before the combine began, aaron curry was said to be the best;at the combine......he proved it.with running back speed and agility and the strength to overcome blockes, curry is sure to become the next willis, ryans and tatupu.if the lions didnt have the need for a quarterback,he would surely go number 1.thats not say he wont become the fifth linebacker to go number 1,imagine a corps containing curry and sims?

other players also made their mark with good performances:

pat white(qb)-threw well and ran well.continuing to puzzle gm's whether or not to take him
brian cushing(lb)-good all round solid performance continues to impress after being overshadowed at usc by maualuga
jared cook(te)-fastest te and a top ten finisher in most disciplines, still not first round material but did impress
david buehler(k)-completed 25 reps on the bench press, thats more than brandon pettigrew did and the same as curry and beanie wells!

james laurinitis,a lb from ohio had an illustrious career,he also had a poor showing at the combine failing to show the kind of speed that backs up his stats.he will still go in the first round but his run in indianapolis didnt help him!for me brandon pettigrew didnt establish himself as the dominant te he is slated to be.however to buzz seems to be about the performance,or lack of one from matthew stafford.didnt excite scouts but will ultimatey be a high pick due to his position and other teams needs at his position!

that concludes my final post as an 18 year old!my next one will concern mock drafts and the like along with the draft order!hope everything is going alright in india!btw just get a can of deoderant and a lighter and burn those ant suckers!

Free Agency

hey ed whats happing?uni is quite good but learning is gay!reading your blog is always a hoot and hope your having a good time out there!writing this blog is actually sweet too,so ill keep it up until the draft has completly subsided!

just want to take some time to address the current period of free agency.
one of the most recent developments has been the extension of the cap from 123 to 127 million. this makes the top 5 teams in both wealthiest and poorest look like this:

most:TB(61m);KC(57m);PHIL(48m);DEN(37);GB(34)
least:CAR(1.9m);NE(3.2m);INDY(6.6m);PITT(7.4m);WAS(8.1m)

as you can see tampa seem to have alot of space, yet according to schefter, the bucs will not pursue haynesworth?this could be debated however!people reportedly in the hunt for the man that could command the first defensive 100m contract are tennessee, detriot and apparently washington.how the skins will accomplish this feat is unbeknown to me as we have so little cap room and we have just signed deangelo hall to a big deal.however on the flip side,if we do manage to sign the best player on the market, they are saying it will increase the productivity of hall, jason taylor and could finally elevate the redskins as a whole.we can only wait and pray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

other notable defensive players out there are ray lewis, bart scott and brian dawkins as allan has already pointed out.unfortunately for teenan, nmandi asumough was signed by the raiders!

on the offense kurt warner, jeff garcia, derrick ward and tj houshmanzadeh are among the prizes with brandon jacobs being tied up by the giants.

cant wait to see what happens, espiacailly on the haynesworth front and hope to complete my combine review soon, talk to you later ed!

senior bowl

hey ed,sorry for delay but here is the first of my draft blogs for ya.oh and i cant wait to see your basketball skills in action.

senior bowl

south 35 north 18

before the game mike mayock and charles davis both made predictions:
mike- pat white will be the mvp
davis- the winning team will win by 10 points or less
mike won

as you may or may not know, there was a lot of controversy over matt ryan's contract(deserved or not).in the upcoming years the league could see a rookie cap which tends to be bad news for agents. therefore with this in mind, more and more juniors and sophmores are coming into the league early.

in mayock's top 5 of every position the skill positions are dominated with juniors.qb rb and wr are all teaming with young athletic talent who are waiting to make their mark.however the juniors will be commented on in another post.

defense is once again strong this year with linebackers being the order of the day.from ilb's like rey maualuga and james lauriniatis to olb's such as brian cusshing, clay matthews and brian orakpo.the cream of the crop though is wake forrest olb aaron cuury, who mike thought of as the nation's top senior.

the secondary includes people like patrick chung, louis delmas and malcolm jenkins.
the d line is dominated by people such as bj raji, tyson jackson, fili moala and evander hood.

all the names i refered to are all on mike's list(bar mathews who is close and is also the 3rd usc linebaker entering the draft behind maualuga and cushing)

the other area that seems to be flooded with class nowadays is the o line.senior tackles and centres have continued to impress and will command a high salary, along with their high draft pick.eugene monroe, max unger and micheal oher among others will be snapped up quickly.

that concludes this first post with all rights belonging to the nfl, mike and charles.if you have any questions give me them all and i will have a separate section for the answers!

just a final point, your former coach jon gruden accentuated a point that not many will like to hear and some who think its overdue.the league is changing, the success of the wildcat has brought out a new position.most recently the newest position has been the hybrid linebacker/defensive end people like merriman;suggs.now its the hybrid running back/quarterback.someone who isnt used all the time but waiting for the chance to fool the d with a run and pass for 6.the mvp of the senior bowl was pat white,he is one of these hybrids.the most recent recipient of the heisman was tim tebow.he was the first sophmore to recieve the award.in 1 season he scored 50 touchdowns:25 passing 25 running.he is one of these hybrids.it is he who gruden refered to.when he comes out, there is a good chance he'll be number 1,get a huge contract and revolutionise the nfl, like so many predictions in the past however, the final product is yet unknown.

cheers ed
